WhatsApp review

There are hundreds of IM (Instant Messenger) and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services available today but not all of those are as much popular as WhatsApp. Currently WhatsApp has around 450 million users worldwide that clearly reflects how much people love this. Obviously this number will go up in the future. Unlike Skype, WhatsApp is only available for mobile platforms including iOS, Android, Symbian, Windows Phone and BlackBerry.

All you need is a smartphone with WhatsApp installed in it and active internet connection to make free audio and video calls to your friends and family. You can either use mobile data or Wi-Fi network to use it. Let’s talk about some amazing features of this awesome app and service.

Audio and Video Calls

As mentioned above, you can make unlimited audio and video WhatsApp to WhatsApp calls to your friends and family at anytime and from anywhere. Amazingly the call feature works even on slower networks too. The app automatically adjusts video quality according to the network speed to optimise the overall quality.

No Need of Account

Unlike other IM and VoIP services, it does not need a separate ID because your phone number works as your unique ID. In other words, you don’t have to tell other people any ID because your phone number itself is the ID. On the other hand, you can contact people on WhatsApp using their phone number. In short, using phone number as an ID is much easier than remembering another unique ID (like we do on Skype and Viber).

It’s Free

Yeah, you read it right. WhatsApp mobile app is free to download from the relevant app store while the service is free forever. Amazingly it is not even ads supported so you don’t have to worry about the annoying ads floating on the screen.

File Sharing

WhatsApp allows users to send and receive files and documents whenever they want (regardless of the receiver is online or not at that point). You can share audio files, videos files as well as PDF documents with your friends and colleagues.

Group Chat

It has this amazing feature called “Group Chat” that allows users to initiate and join group chat. It means you can chat with more than one person at a time. If you initiate a group chat then you can add up to 30 people in that group and remove people from the group if you want. Though if you are not the administrator of the group (if you didn’t create it) then you cannot remove people from the group.
